Here's set lists and a few comments on the Big Day Out 21/1/96:

Dirty Three were much as the night before and to their credit they didn't lose anything playing a daylight gig - Warren still had his sore throat and did his best impression of Mr. Gobby trying to clear it throughout the set!

  1. I Wish I Could Love You but I Always End Up Loving You
  2. Sue's Last Ride aka It's a Fucking Bummer That You Died

This time Warren elaborated on the previous evening with - about waking up dead(?) in the back of a car 'cause you took too much smack.

  3. I Remember a Time When Once You Used to Love Me
  4. Warren's Lament
  5. The Dirty Equation

Nick et al were in fine form, Blixa sporting a lady's straw hat complete with veil despite night having descended. Nick was obviously enjoying himself, strutting around the stage and performing his preacheresque admonishments to the front rows.

Unlike the Addicted to Noise article on the NZ show the only technical hitch was a dud mike which was quickly sorted (BTW how dare the NZ crowd lose interest during a NCATBS's set even with problems - sacrilege!).

  1. Stagger Lee
  2. Do You Love Me?
  3. Jack the Ripper
  4. Mercy (with the assistance of one Warren Ellis of the Dirty Three)
  5. Loverman
  6. From Her to Eternity
  7. Red Right Hand
  8. Into My Arms
Oliver asked, "I can't recall hearing about this song before. Anyone else?"
Nick advised they hadn't recorded it and rather than having a country & western feel, I'd suggest it was more akin to the type of music that would be performed by a lounge act... a really beautiful song which I could imagine listening to whilst on my way to meet the Sandman. Our tastes obviously differ a tad Mark -"It was a pretty naff song, but in an ok way."???

  9. The Willow Garden (again with Warren)
  10. Where the Wild Roses Grow - The home crowd left no doubt that this was the song to release as a single... Nick invites Kylie to accompany him (Warren stayed for this one also) and the crowd goes wild!!! They did look a bit of an odd couple though - tall, dark, need I say, god-like creature and a short surfy chick with closely cropped blonde hair. They did a lovely duet regardless.

  11. The Weeping Song
  12. The Mercy Seat

It appears to be the same set as the NZ show. If so, the rest of you in Australia will know when to have your cameras at the ready ;'] Unfortunately, if the photos we've had developed thus far are any indication it doesn't seem like we'll have any to frame - I don't think I'll ever be forgivven for having the shots from the D3 gig of Cheryl and Bianca with Warren then Nick slightly out of focus!

Here's a laugh....we were on the lookout for our new Brisbanite among the hordes at BDO, (Rick Smith, he of the grey BP t-shirt)....found the said t-shirt and a guy in it called Rick, but not our man from this list! What are the odds?

Nighty-night,

Cheryl & David
