In the movie we see a short soundcheck of NC&BS playing an introduction to the song 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix'. Nick is improvising a spoken word intro to the song. The concept of this spoken 'rap' and indeed the musical arrangement of the Kicking Against The Pricks version of 'Phoenix' are both based on Isaac Hayes classic interpretation of this song, 18 minutes in length!
